Artist Biography
Gem White is a native Texan; born in Witchata Falls, raised in Royse City, had her first jobs in Dallas and Mesquite , attended college at UT Austin and SFASU in Nacogdoches (where she received a B.F.A. & M.A.), started teaching as adjunct faculty at SFASU, taught in public schools in Aldine, Kingwood, Chester, Bridge City and Woodville. Gem received Teacher of the Year for two different school districts. In 2017 she had her first Solo Art Show titled “One Breath at a Time” in conjunction with a production of the play she wrote with the same title. She retired from Woodville ISD in 2020. Due to her retirement Gem was finally able to spend the legislative session in Austin with her husband, Chairman of Homeland Security and Public Safety, James White.
