Artist Statement

My old dog, Shady, and I walk around downtown Austin as bills hang in the balance close by at the Capitol.

We walk and I snap pictures, then we scurry back to the hotel where they will be used for reference.

I squiggle ink and splash watercolor on the page and Shady naps next to my feet.

As tempers flare and deals are struck behind closed doors and on the House and Senate Floors, we walk on, finding beauty and delight in battered storefronts and stately buildings alike.

The resulting art is more a representation of the freedom Shady and I feel and our vibrant moods, than realistic renditions.

While the legislature and lobby maneuver for the great State of Texas, Slim Shady and I are existing in spontaneous, happy, living color.
