Fighting for Attention

The old and the new creating an intriguing clash. I was fascinated by the way the Neon “Park” Sign grabs your attention, even though there is a beautiful, stately church, surrounded by lovely trees only a few yards away.

Decrepit and Overrun

Beauty can be found in the strangest of places. I had to stop to investigate when I saw this broken down Up Town Sport Shop. The colorful graffiti, the dilapidated building and the way nature is taking it back is in fascinating juxtaposition to it’s surroundings.

Boarded Up Storefronts Downtown on Congress

When we first arrived in Downtown Austin many of the buildings were boarded up. It was a little scary to see a normally bustling city at a standstill due to the pandemic. Slowly the boards starting coming off and life gradually started creeping back in. What concerns me are the ones that are still boarded up. Will they renovate these old buildings or tear them down and replace them with something new. Here’s hoping the charm of the old that is so much a part of Austin will remain intact. Since I painted this picture the old colorful boards have been removed and replaced. Looks like something is about to happen…
